Dr. Diann DeWitt has over 28 years of teaching experience in adult health, research, and critical care nursing. Throughout her career, she has taught courses at St. John’s College, Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University, and the University of Illinois. She has been responsible for classroom and clinical management of three courses per year as well as didactic teaching and clinical teaching in an undergraduate baccalaureate nursing program. Her clinical areas of expertise include general medical, surgical, intermediate care, and critical care units. In addition to teaching, Diann served as a student advisor and mentored new faculty. She was the Chairperson of the Research and Evaluation Committee at St. John’s College and was in charge of developing curriculum for a baccalaureate nursing program.

In addition to her experience in higher education, Diann has 27 years of staff nursing including five years on a post-surgical unit and 22 years in the critical care setting. In recognition of her academic and professional accomplishments, Dr. DeWitt received the Holmquist Award for Scholarly Achievement in Nursing Education from the Indiana University School of Nursing Alumni Association, and the Annual Martha Welch Research Day Poster Presentation Award from Sigma Theta Tau’s Epsilon Eta Chapter. Her publications include “Incorporating Spirituality in the Curriculum,” published in “Teaching Nursing: The Art and Science,” and “Strategies for Evaluating Learning Outcomes” published in “Teaching in Nursing.” Diann received a Doctorate in Nursing Science from Indiana University, her Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University.
